چکیده

We consider a fractured porous medium that is studied at a scale such that the fractures can be modeled individually. Models for flow in which the fractures are interfaces between subdomains are presented. These models take into account interactions between the fractures and the surrounding porous medium. Existence and uniqueness of the solution to the model problem are proved. Error estimates show convergence as O(max{h, d}) in the L norm, where h is the mesh size and d the fracture width. Numerical experiments confirm the theoretical results.

Gradient discretization of Hybrid Dimensional Darcy Flows in Fractured Porous Media with discontinuous pressures at the matrix fracture interfaces

We investigate the discretization of Darcy flow through fractured porous media on general meshes. We consider a hybrid dimensional model, invoking a complex network of planar fractures. The model accounts for matrix-fracture interactions and fractures acting either as drains or as barriers, i.e. we have to deal with pressure discontinuities at matrix-fracture interfaces. The numerical analysis ...

A Numerical Investigation of Soil-Bedrock Interface Flow Impedance

It is common for subsurface flow to transition between porous and fractured media. Two examples include vertical infiltration of precipitation through a permeable soil overlying a fractured bedrock, and horizontal ground water flow through a combination of porous and fractured geologic units. A reduction in flow or flow impedance may occur across these interfaces caused by head losses associate...

Asymptotic and numerical modelling of flows in fractured porous media

This study concerns some asymptotic models used to compute the flow outside and inside fractures in a bidimensional porous medium. The flow is governed by the Darcy law both in the fractures and in the porous matrix with large discontinuities in the permeability tensor. These fractures are supposed to have a small thickness with respect to the macroscopic length scale, so that we can asymptotic...

Low-conductivity Fractures in an Unsaturated Porous Medium

Many flows observed in subsurface rock formations are unsaturated flows through a medium containing fractures. In cases where the fracture voids are small and nonconnective, one finds that little flow occurs within those voids. Under these conditions, the fractures act as barriers which impede background flow in the underlying matrix. From a computational point of view, discrete modeling of the...
